Hirsch Fishtail Gouges

Produced by one of Germany’s oldest tool-making firms, these professional-quality gouges are the style traditionally favored by European carvers. The natural finish hornbeam handles have excellent impact resistance, and their octagonal shape gives a secure grip and prevents rolling on the bench. The fully polished blades are hand forged from high-carbon steel, hardened to Rc61 for durability, and require only final stropping.

As the name suggests, these gouges have a blade with a flared tip for making sharp edges and getting into corners without damaging adjacent shapes. They feature a #3 curvature (or sweep) and are available in either a 10mm or 20mm blade width.

They will last a lifetime with normal care.
