While it’s frequently said that you can never have too many clamps, often the real problem is not having ones long enough for the job at hand. Driven by an Acme-threaded screw, one jaw registers against an outside face of the work, while a cam-action clamp serves as the opposing jaw, grasping the work a short distance from the joint. This not only lets you secure work much longer than the clamp itself, but the short span also helps prevent long stock from bowing.
