Carving for Kids

Divided into three age groups, these projects are designed to introduce children to the rewarding craft of carving. The youngest (ages 4 to 9) are taught the basics of stamping and how to use a screwdriver to follow a line pattern. The next group (ages 9 to 12) is shown how to use sanding sticks and bows to create a ladybug, a barrette, a spoon and a snowman. Projects for the teenager introduce the blade and include a duck, a bear and a bearded face.

Separate sections cover wood properties, tools and basic carving techniques. Adult assistance is needed for some steps.
