With four blade styles to perform various types of cuts, this set of tools lets you take on a wide array of small carving projects, from whittling and chip carving to signmaking, spoon carving and more. For a novice carver, it’s a well-rounded starter set for exploring a range of techniques, but even an expert carver will find these high-quality tools make worthy additions to their tool kit.
The set includes two carving knives and two palm carving gouges. All have well-ground high-carbon steel blades that come fully honed, ready for use, while the ergonomically shaped ash handles permit a comfortable grip, helping prevent hand strain in extended use.
The cutting and fine-point detail knives both measure about 6 1/2", with 1 3/16" blades hardened to Rc52-54. The #6 × 5/16" palm gouge and 70° × 1/4" parting gouge are both just over 5" long, with handles designed to nest in the palm as you guide the blades (Rc55-58) with your fingertips, permitting superb control.
