Saru is a Star Trek Starfleet Officer and Lieutenant Commander initially on the U.S.Shenzou and then on the U.S. Discovery. He is a Kelpien, an alian prey species that lives in the perpetual state of fear and has biologically fostered the ability to sense threats, particulary impending death.
