E.C. Emmerich Traditional Wooden Smooth Plane
From Lee Valley
Nothing represents tradition in woodworking like the wooden plane, with many design elements that have remained unchanged for hundreds of years.
One of the reasons for their enduring popularity is that they are lighter than comparable steel planes and are therefore less tiring to use.
Used to smooth surfaces and remove marks left by the milling process, this 220mm (8 5/8") long finishing plane is somewhat shorter than most steel-body smooth planes to permit more precise work. It has a beech body, a hornbeam sole and a wedged 48mm (1 7/8") wide double iron set bevel-down at a 50° bed angle. The blade is adjusted by light hammer taps to set angle and projection, a process that permits fine, quick adjustment. It has a horn-shaped handle, usable with either a right- or left-hand grip.
Made in Germany by E.C. Emmerich, the manufacturer of the finest wooden planes available today.
