Narex Richter Mortise Chisels
From Lee Valley
Size: 1/2" Richter Mortise Chisel
Named after the company’s founder, Vaclav Richter, the Richter line of chisels from Narex are some of the finest tools that this Czech firm has ever produced.
Built for hard use, they have blades made of high-grade chrome-vanadium steel, hardened to Rc62-64 and cryogenically treated to toughen the steel without making it brittle. They will take and hold a fine edge and can withstand repeated heavy mallet blows.
To permit the sidewall clearance needed to work in narrow recesses, the blades taper slightly from shoulder to tip, and have eased edges to reduce the risk of accidental cuts. Each is flattened to within ±0.1mm along the first 2/3 of the length from the tip and comes ground with a 25° bevel that can be easily reground to a steeper secondary bevel.
The European ash handle has a comfortable contoured shape and a domed end to resist chipping and deformation from mallet blows. It is fitted with a shock-absorbing leather washer and reinforced with a heavy-gauge ferrule and hoop turned from solid stainless steel.
Each chisel measures 11 1/4" overall with an approximately 5" long blade. We offer them individually in five widths (1/8", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8" and 1/2") or as a set of the four most commonly used sizes (1/8", 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2"). Tip guards included.
Well balanced and made to last, with impressive fit and finish throughout, these are exceptionally well-made tools.
