Boathouse - Retail In Action
Boathouse is committed to not only doing what they do today, but what they can do in the future. They will continue to revisit how they operate in order to build their sustainability initiatives.
Visual Initiative
You see those window banners? They are normally made of vinyl, which ends up in landfills. Boathouse is switching their materials to a recyclable cardstock. That will eliminate 15,328 yards of vinyl.
Boathouse is using more in-store “logo” imagery, which will reduce the need to replace signs seasonally. This will cut their signage waste by 50%.
Their logo signs? They are made from foam core, which is not recyclable. They are now switching to coroplast, which is recyclable and helps their signage be more green.
They are reducing the amount and depth of promotions that they usually run, which will eliminate 38,394 pieces of printed paper.
Boathouse is reducing its carbon footprint by cutting flights and utilizing a “visual walk-through” via a streaming app. This ensures that their visual team can verify that their stores look amazing without leaving their hometown.
They have also changed their lighting in stores to LED in order to be energy efficient.
Their Buying Team
The Boathouse buying team is choosing to source and carry brands that make sustainability a priority.
They will continue to carry more vegan footwear
Boathouse carries its own brand of private-label water bottles to reduce plastic consumption.
Landfills
Boathouse prides itself on never improperly disposing of excess inventory
They have a very robust clearance program that allows them to sell used inventory to keep from destroying any product.
Every season they donate 1000s of items to people in need keeping these items out of Canadian landfills each year
