This book challenges you to think outside the bowl. The author presents 16 of his personal projects to illustrate how you can incorporate decorative elements such as pierced carving, texturing and wood burning into your own work.

Instead of giving step-by-step instructions that restrict you to making an identical project, he encourages you to experiment, not just with designs, but also with how you make them. The examples include a whimsical pair of goblets, vessels with delicate lace-like fretwork carved with a rotary tool, and a bowl with an inset cross – made of a single piece of wood with no gluing.
